The Probation Officers Professional Association of Indiana (POPAI) proudly honors the memory of Donald “Charley” Knepple through the Donald “Charley” Knepple Memorial Scholarship. Charley was a dedicated probation officer who tragically lost his life on April 28, 1997, while performing his duties in Allen County, Indiana.
To recognize Charley’s commitment to public service and to promote continued professionalism in the field of probation, POPAI established this scholarship to support advanced education for probation officers throughout Indiana. Each year, POPAI awards $2,500.00 to a deserving individual pursuing a Master’s or Doctorate degree in a related field.
This year, we also reflect on the passing of Linda Knepple, Charley’s beloved wife, who died in 2025. In a heartfelt tribute to both Charley and Linda, the Knepple family generously directed all monetary donations received in Linda’s memory to the scholarship fund. POPAI is deeply grateful for this contribution, which will allow Charley’s legacy to continue inspiring and supporting the professional development of Indiana’s probation community.
We remain committed to honoring the Knepple family’s legacy and thank them for their continued support.
