The legislature intended that contributing to delinquency as a Class A misdemeanor does not require the defendant’s knowledge of the child’s age, but the greater offense of contributing to delinquency as a Level 5 felony does require such knowledge.

State officials are planning to launch an anonymous tip line regarding safety concerns that will be available for all K-12 schools starting in January.

The line will be monitored 24 hours a day year-round as part of what will be a $1 million investment to ensure all schools have access to a platform for reporting possible safety issues, the governor’s office announced Friday.

Indiana judges may soon have the ability to deny bail for more defendants they believe pose a danger to the public.

Defendants are guaranteed the right to bail under the Indiana constitution except in cases of murder or treason — even when a judge believes the defendant may reoffend while awaiting trial.

Hoosiers will vote this fall on a proposed constitutional amendment years in the making to rewrite these rules, so judges could deny bail to any defendant if the state proves they cannot be safely released.

A person convicted of a felony usually loses a host of rights, including owning a gun.

Normally, getting that right back is nearly impossible without a presidential pardon, according to clemency experts.

But now, the Justice Department, through its Office of the Pardon Attorney, is reviving a path to restore gun rights. County, municipal, and tribal governments are invited to apply for an innovative 12-month strategic planning process to evaluate their current pretrial systems and develop actionable plans to improve outcomes and enhance community safety.
