2008
Jane Seigel

The 2008 POPAI Founders Award was presented to Jane Seigel, Executive Director of the Indiana Judicial Center.  She was nominated because she has fostered a closer relationship between the Indiana Judicial Center and POPAI as the needs of probation have come to the attention of the General Assembly, Indiana Judicial Conference, and other levels of government.  As Executive Director of the Indiana Judicial Center, she has recognized POPAI’s commitment to educate chief probation officers, and has dedicated staff and resources to assist POPAI in that effort.  She has also attended POPAI discussions and listened to the needs of probation officers, and as a result she has advocated for a continued state salary schedule for probation officers, supported professional accountability in studies of evidence based practices, and been a sounding board on issues like state funding of probation.  Likewise, she has stood alongside POPAI leadership regarding legislative challenges and initiatives.  Finally, she has remained optimistic in times of opposition and change from those entities that have challenged the field of probation.

As the Executive Director, Ms. Seigel also serves on the Criminal Law Study Commission, is on the Board of Trustees of the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute and serves as Indiana’s Commissioner on the Interstate Commission for Adult Offender Supervision. Prior to assuming this position, she served as the General Counsel for the Indiana Association of Cities and Towns and worked in various legal positions at the Indianapolis-Marion County City-County Legal Division. Ms. Seigel received her B.A. degree from DePauw University and her J.D. Degree from Indiana University School of Law at Indianapolis.
