Secretary’s Report:

Jennifer provided copies of the December minutes. Steve moved to accept the December minutes. Madonna seconded, all were in favor. Motion carried.

Treasurer’s Report:

Madonna provided copies of the Treasurer's Report. The report reflects the balance of the checking account as $9,536.08 and savings as $22,580.54. At this time, the total cash balance is $32,116.62 and total assets are $34,082.54. Katherine moved to accept the Treasurer's Report. Cherie seconded, all were in favor. Motion carried. Madonna brings up that she recently received three bills from Susan from the 2005 Annual Fall Conference from Caesars for the amount of $28,485.94, Positively Humor for the amount of $4,572.00, and Modern Graphics for $764.89. Madonna reports we have only received a few checks for registration for the conference. Eric will check with Susan regarding the status of the checks and the bills will be paid upon deposit of conference registration fees.

Education:

Eric provided a copy of the agenda for the New Chief Probation Officer Orientation, Management Institute, and Chief Probation Officer Summit that was emailed to Chief Probation Officers yesterday by Susan.

Awards and Recognition:

Lori reports that 15 year plaques were provided to District Representatives. District Representatives will be sending them out to the those members recognized in 2005.

Applications are being accepted for the DONALD “CHARLEY” KNEPPLE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP now through April 7, 2006. All applications must be submitted to the attention of Danyel Wagner, Noble County Probation Department, 101 N. Orange Street, Albion, IN, 46701, fax: 260.636.3117, dwagner@nobleco.org. POPAI members pursuing an advanced degree are eligible to apply for the scholarship. A copy of the application is included with your minutes and is also available at www.gopopai.org.

Legislation:

Eric reports that Steve will represent POPAI at at hearing on HB 1016 regarding Pre-Trial Service Fees. Other bills currently being tracked by POPAI include SB 148 and HB 1165 - use of CAGIT revenue by certain counties, SB 211 - establishes 18 specified legislative study committees effective January 1, 2007, SB 275 - Forensic Diversion Program, HB 1234 - extends the special death benefit of $150,000 for a public safety officer who dies in the line of duty to a special deputy who is employed by a political subdivision and to certain airport police officers and firefighters, HB 1001- consolidates the county family and children's fund plus other funds into a new child welfare fund and makes other changes to the juvenile system, HB 1304 - funds and makes some changes to JTAC. Old Business:

Linda moves to renew Lori's contract as Membership Services Coordinator at the rate of $6,000.00 per year. Steve seconds, all were in favor. Motion carried. Contract signed between Lori White and POPAI for contractual membership services for January 10, 2006 through January 10, 2007. Madonna moves to give Lori a $500.00 bonus for services rendered. Linda seconded, all were in favor. Motion carried.

Linda moves to donate $100.00 to the Bill Selke Heart of Justice Award through Indiana University. Madonna seconds, all were in favor. Motion carried. Madonna has the information on where to send the donation.

New Business:

POPAI sends their condolences to the LaGrange County Probation Department, friends and family of Don Frye. Don passed away on December 29, 2005. Don was the Chief Probation Officer for LaGrange County for 21 years.

Linda states that Judge Bridges of the Judge's Probation Committee contacted her in regard to administrative fees and their ability to cover the increased Probation Officer salaries. Linda completed a report for the committee regarding how in some instances the fee is not covering salaries.

Cherie moved to close the meeting. Madonna seconded, all were in favor. Motion carried.

Next month's meeting will be held on Wednesday, February 22, 2006, at 12 noon at the Sheraton Indianapolis Hotel, Keystone at the Crossing, Indianapolis, Indiana.
