Call to Order:

Eric opened the meeting at 11 a.m.

Secretary’s Report:

Jennifer provided copies of the November minutes. Since there was no quorum at the November meeting, Don moved to accept the October and November 2005 minutes. Linda seconded, all were in favor. Motion carried.

Treasurer’s Report:

Madonna provided copies of the Treasurer's Report. The report reflects a balance of $10,586.08 in the checking account and $22,580.54 in the savings account. At this time, the total cash balance is $33,166.63 and total assets are $35,132.54. Cherie moved to accept the Treasurer's Report. Linda seconded, all were in favor. Motion carried. Madonna reported that we are currently waiting to receive the POPAI account debit card from the bank.

Membership:

Lori reports that the 2005 10 and 15 year membership lists have been added to the POPAI website. Lori reports that she needs to order POPAI binders to provide to new members.

Education:

Don reports the Chief's Executive Committee has a plan in place for the New Chief Probation Officer Training, Management Institute and Chief Probation Officer Summit. Greg Werich, Susan and Don met las week. The training will be held as follows: Monday, February 20, 2006 - New Chief PO Training; Tuesday, February 21, 2006 - Management Institute; and Wednesday, February 22, 2006 - Chief Probation Officer Summit (The topic for the CPO Summit will be "Crisis Management".). An agenda will be sent out in January. Tim McAlhany submitted a report from the "It's Your Turn" support staff training. It showed there were 42 attendees and the training made a $401.00 profit. The Board had and opportunity to review the comments from the participants. Nearly all responses were very positive and offered constructive feedback.

Awards and Recognition:

Danyel has completed the 10 and 15 year certificates. They will be sent out to individual members.

Corporate Membership:

No report.

Legislation:

Eric has a list of all of the submitted bills. The ones of interest to POPAI at this time are HB101 and SB0006. Eric noted that it was still early and that additional bills can still be submitted. Eric reports that he met with Senator David Long of the sentencing study committee. Eric reports that he was contacted by a Probation Officer that does not have PERF. Barb is going to check in to whether or not public employees - as individuals - can contribute to PERF even if their county has opted out. Eric does not think this is a legislative issue.

Election:

Eric reports Laird recommended Renee Marstellar for the District 6 Representative position. Eric reports that he spoke with her regarding this opportunity. Don moved to accept Renee Marstellar as the new District 6 Representative. Madonna seconds, all were in favor. Motion carried.

Technology:

Don reports that the Technology Committee met today. Matt will be asked to change the format of the weekly update to make it easier to read. Don requests ideas for poll questions to be put on the website. Katherine moves that the 2006 Annual Fall Conference be held in South Bend. Don seconds. Discussion follows. Discussion tabled until the next meeting.

Chief’s Executive Committee:
The Chief’s Executive Committee will be meeting today following the POPAI meeting.

Old Business:

Eric has not completed Lori's new contract yet. He will bring it to the January meeting.

Alison Juliot emailed Linda information regarding the death of Bill Selke, a criminal justice professor at Indiana University. She highlighted that a Bill Selke Heart of Justice Award was being created to recognize an outstanding graduating member. Linda will contact IU to find out more information. This topic will be tabled until the next meeting.

Madonna moved to close the meeting. Cherie seconded, all were in favor. Motion carried.

The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, January 11, 2005 @ 11 a.m. at the Marion Superior Court Probation Department South office located at 3920 S. Madison Avenue, Indianapolis, Indiana.
