Executive Board Meeting
August 8, 2003

Call to Order:

Eric Zimmerman opened the meeting at 10:00 a.m.

Secretary’s Report:

Don moved to accept the July minutes. Bill seconded, all were in favor. Motion carried.

Treasurer’s Report:

A copy of the Treasurer's Annual Report was included in the Annual Conference Binders. The monthly report reflects the balance of the checking account as $7,571.17 and savings as $22,373.40. Total assets at this time are $30,224.56. Don moved to accept the Treasurer's Report. Susan seconded, all were in favor. Motion carried.

Membership:

10 and 15 year POPAI members were recognized at the Annual Conference. 10 year members received certificates and 15 year members received certificates and plaques. All certificates and plaques not yet distributed will be given to the District Representatives for distribution at the September Board Meeting. If you feel you should have been recognized and your name was not on the list, contact Lori White at 317.327.3056.

Education:

The POPAI Annual Conference was discussed. Eric presented the Board with a job description for a Training and Conference Planner that will be hired to plan and execute various training and education sessions and conferences for POPAI members. Don motions that POPAI accept the Job Description as written and for the Board to recruit a Training and Conference Planner for the purposes outlined in the job description. Laird seconded, all were in favor. Motion carried. A copy of the job description is included with your minutes. If you or someone you know is interested in applying for this position please send resume and compensation requirements to: Search Committee - Training and Conference Planner, POPAI, P.O. Box 44148, Indianapolis, Indiana, 46244, or visit our website at www.gopopai.org. All applications are to be received no later than October 1, 2003.

Awards and Recognition:

Eric recognizes the Awards Committee for their hard work in selecting the Founder's Award winners. The "Founder’s Award" is a way of recognizing individuals who have significantly contributed to the field of probation in general and specifically to the POPAI organization. The recipient need not be a Probation Officer or POPAI member. The selected person however, shall be characterized by his/her commitment or influence and promotion of professionalism to Indiana probation. Several nominations were received for this year's award, however the committee could not make a decision between two of the nominees. The Board chose to present two Founder's Awards at the Annual Business Meeting. Linda Parks, Chief Probation Officer of Stueben County Probation Department, and Indiana Senator Charles "Bud" Meeks were both honored for their contribution to the profession of Probation. Congratulations and thanks to them both!

Corporate Membership:

Susan reports one new corporate member - Lakeview Wilderness Academy. Visit our website at www.gopopai.org to find out more about our corporate members.

Legislation:

Linda brought up the issue of the Forensic Diversion Program (an attachment to the Budget Bill). POPAI will watch this issue.

Election:

The 2003 POPAI Elections were held at the Annual Business Meeting on July 7, 2003, at the POPAI Annual Conference. Congratulations to the newly elected members that include: Vice-President - Susan Rice, Miami County Chief Probation Officer, Treasurer - Madonna Wagoner Roach, Hamilton County Chief Probation Officer, District One - William Wakeland, Jasper County Probation Officer, District Three - Don Travis, Howard County Chief Probation Officer, District Five - Becky (Bealmear) Schrock, Marion Superior Court Probation Department Field Services Program Coordinator, and District Seven - Linda Brady, Monroe County Chief Probation Officer. The Board would like to thank the outgoing members Greg Werich, Melody Sears, and Allison Juliot for their hard work and contributions while on the Board.

You can access membership information, minutes archive, District Representative information, Board Member Executive information, Corporate Member page, current job postings, POPAI current events, and hot links to other sites of interest. The website is being updated on a regular basis and new links will be added in the future. Please submit any ideas that you have to improve the website for you or your department to your District Representative.

Merchandise:

Merchandise will be available for purchase through the POPAI website in the near future.

Old Business:

Eric would like to appoint Greg Werich to develop ideas & network with the Chief's Executive Committee regarding supervisory issues. Don moves to appoint Greg Werich into this roll with the Chief's Executive Committee. Mike seconds, all were in favor. Motion carried.

New Business:

Eric reports that the cash prizes awarded at the conference were as a result of a room booking bonus from French Lick Resort & Spa. Laird moved to close the meeting. Bill seconded, all were in favor. Motion carried.

Next meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 10, 2003, at 11 a.m. at the City-County Building in Indianapolis, IN.
