2010 POPAI Fall Conference

The 2010 POPAI Fall Conference will be returning to the French Lick Resort in French Lick, Indiana, The recently renovated hotel and conference facility provides the perfect setting for probation professionals to improve themselves in a variety of ways, from the task specific, to the physical being, to the emotional self. This conference is for anyone in the field of probation and probation services. The goal of the conference is to provide another opportunity to assist you in obtaining the required 12 hours of annual continuing education required for Probation Officers in the State of Indiana. Attendance at all sessions will provide 9 hours of continuing education credit. Attendees will be given the opportunity to gain probation specific knowledge on techniques, services and technology of the future being utilized in Indiana today. Opportunities will also be available for attendees to retreat, share ideas, participate in some outdoor activities and to enjoy an excellent training and networking environment.

ResponsibilitiesMUST SPEAK SPANISH. Responsible for supervision of offenders who are granted Probation or referred to the Probation Department for preliminary investigation. Job requires working a non-traditional schedule, including evening and weekend work schedules. JOB DUTIES / AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY: - Supervision of persons on Probation consistent with the conditions imposed by the Court. - Complete preliminary inquiries, Pre-Sentence Investigations and other reports as directed by the Court. - Maintain accurate records and complete data entry of all case contacts. - Make referrals to public and private agencies to meet the needs of the Probationer. - Maintain contact with public and private agencies and other persons or institutions concerned with the treatment or welfare of Probationers. - Conduct drug and alcohol screenings with Probationers. - Testify in Court and secure placements when directed by the Court. - Conduct field / home / work-site visits with Probationers.

Qualifications- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university required; major in Criminal Justice, Social Work, or related field preferred. - Must not be less than twenty-one years of age and must be a U.S. citizen. - Must be able to speak Spanish and must be able to provide written instructions to Probationers in Spanish. - Experience and/or training as a Community Corrections Officer or a Probation Officer preferred. - Must have ability to work as a member of a team. - Must have knowledge of philosophy, theories, practices in the correctional field and related disciplines. - Must have excellent writing and communication skills (English and Spanish). - Must have knowledge of available community resources with understanding and skill to use them. - Must have valid Driver’s License, and must have and maintain reliable vehicle including appropriate level of vehicle insurance.

SalarySalary is based on Indiana Probation Officer Pay Scale depending on years of service as a certified Probation Officer. 2010 starting pay: $29,268 to $44,490. Pay raises are given only for years of experience as a Probation Officer.
