Don Travis

Don Travis is currently the Chief Probation Officer for the Howard County Courts in Kokomo, Indiana.  Mr. Travis has served in this capacity of Chief Probation Officer for the Howard Circuit Court for nearly 15 years prior to being appointed as Chief Probation Officer for the Howard County Courts in March, 2008.  During his early career, Mr. Travis served in many roles within the juvenile justice system including casework supervisor, intensive probation officer, intake probation officer, field probation officer and home detention officer.  He has served as a probation officer in Howard County and in Marion County, Indiana.  In addition to his capacity as the Chief Probation Officer, Mr. Travis serves as the Director of Community Correction for Juvenile Programs in Howard County.  

Mr. Travis developed the juvenile drug court program in Howard County.  Howard County was the first county in the United States to have a certified juvenile drug court.  Mr. Travis currently serves on the Problem Solving Court Committee for the Indiana Judicial Center in addition to serving on the Probation Officer Advisory Committee.  Mr. Travis also serves as the President of the Probation Officers Professional Association of Indiana. 

Mr. Travis received his undergraduate degree from Ball State University, majoring in Criminal Justice with minors in both Counseling Psychology and Sociology.  Mr. Travis received his Masters Degree in Public Administration from Ball State University, as well. 

In 2010, Mr. Travis was the recipient of the highest award offered to probation officers in Indiana; the Order of Augustus honorary award by the Probation Officer Advisory Board of the Indiana Judicial Center, in 2011, Mr. Travis received the POPAI Founder's Award by the Probation Officers Professional Association of Indiana for his commitment to the profession of probation.
